FILTRATION . SFCT – HRF

High Rate
Sand Filter

A pressure sand filter with design modifications that take filtration velocity to 40 m³/hr/m² – double a standard PSF. Smaller vessels, less civil work, same filtrate quality.

HIGH VELOCITY DESIGN

TWICE THE RATE,
HALF THE FOOTPRINT

The Sureflo-HRF is a pressure sand filter carrying specific design modifications — principally the nozzleless under drain and graded media — that allow filtration velocity up to 40 m³/hr/m², double a standard PSF. For a given flow, that halves the required filter area.

The consequence is practical: fewer or smaller vessels, less structural steel, less civil work, and a smaller plot. The filter is both compact and economical, and the filtrate is of superior quality.

DESIGN FEATURES

WHAT MAKES THE RATE POSSIBLE

High-rate operation is not simply pushing more water through a standard filter. Four elements make it work.

MEDIA

SPECIAL FILTER MEDIA

A mono crystalline quartz sand of selected particle size with accurately graduated sizing. The graded bed removes inlet suspended solids up to 100 ppm.

UNDER DRAIN

NOZZLELESS BOTTOM

An exclusive in-house drain design replaces conventional nozzles. It ensures uniform flow during both service and backwash and prevents head loss, with calibrated bores distributing scour air evenly over the filter.

BACKWASH

3-STEP AIR–WATER WASH

Primary air scouring, then secondary washing with air and water together, then tertiary washing with water alone. Air and water are introduced below the drain system and forced concurrently up through the bed.

AIR LIFT

ENHANCED BACKWASH EFFECT

Working on hydrostatic equilibrium: air released under water lightens the surrounding water column, which rises and carries water with it — an air-lift effect through the media. Washing action from air and water is cumulative and synchronized.

DOUBLE THE VELOCITY

HALF THE
FILTER AREA

At up to 40 m³/hr/m² the HRF does the work of two conventional filters in one footprint. For a fixed flow that means fewer vessels, less civil work and a smaller plot.

MODEL SELECTION

Models are selected on performance factor together with incoming water quality and required outlet quality, so the right size varies by duty. For flow rates above a single unit’s capacity, we design customised models. Send us your figures and we will advise on size and configuration.

APPLICATIONS

WHERE THE HRF IS USED

COOLING TOWER SIDE-STREAM

Continuous side-stream filtration on recirculating cooling water, at half the filter area of a conventional bed.

RO / UF / NF PRE-FILTRATION

Pre-filtration ahead of ultra-, nano- and reverse-osmosis systems, protecting membranes from particulate loading.

RAW WATER FILTRATION

River, canal and reservoir water treated ahead of process or potable use.

TERTIARY & EFFLUENT TREATMENT

Final polishing of treated wastewater and effluent before discharge or recycling.

SCALE REMOVAL

Removal of scale and suspended solids from process and cooling water streams.

MINING & METALLURGICAL

Filtration duty in mining and metallurgical plants, including backwash water filtration and recovery.

CHOOSING A FILTER

THREE SAND FILTER OPTIONS

Sureflo builds all three, plus automatic backwash screen filters. Which suits depends on flow, available head, plot area and how much attention the filter can be given.

AVGF

Gravity, valveless, self-backwashing on head loss.

  • No power, valves or operator
  • 10–500 m³/hr per unit
  • Open tank, gravity head

HIGH RATE (HRF)

Pressure sand filter, modified for double the velocity.

  • Up to 40 m³/hr/m² — smallest footprint
  • Up to 600 m³/hr per unit
  • Pressure vessel, line pressure kept

PRESSURE SAND (PSF)

Conventional pressure filtration, proven and economical.

  • Up to 20 m³/hr/m²
  • Up to 300 m³/hr per unit
  • Pressure vessel, line pressure kept
